Health Sciences Library Advisory CommitteeCHARGE:The role of the Health Sciences Library Advisory Committee is to advise the Library Director in any matter pertaining to Library policies or practices and to recommend improvements to library services or resources on behalf of library users. COMPOSITION AND TERMS:The Committee consists of appointed representatives from each of the Library's primary user groups. The schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and the Department of Allied Health Sciences each have two faculty representatives and one student representative. UNC Hospitals has two professional staff members. The Library Director serves ex officio. The Health Affairs representative to the Administrative Board of the Library also serves ex officio (this position is appointed by the Chair of the Faculty). The Office of the Provost appoints an ex officio representative. Faculty/professional staff serve rotating two-year terms. Students serve one-year terms. All terms are renewable. REPORTING:The Committee makes an annual report to the Office of the Provost. This report will be shared, by the Chair, with the Administrative Board of the Library, which reports annually to the Faculty Council. MEETINGS:The Committee typically meets two times per semester during the regular academic year, at a convenient time. SUPPORT:The Administrative Assistant to the Library Director provides administrative support to the committee, taking and distributing minutes, managing correspondence, maintaining a committee email listserv, maintaining committee archives, arranging meetings, and other duties as needed. Related Groups: HSL Board of Visitors (advises on library fundraising); Administrative Board of the Library (elected by Faculty Council to support Davis Library). Chair, Health Sciences Library Advisory CommitteeThe Chair of the Health Sciences Library Advisory Committee is appointed by the Provost for a three year renewable term. Those eligible to serve as chair are full time faculty in one of the schools in Health Affairs or professional staff in UNC Hospitals. The Chair is responsible for conducting the meetings of the Advisory Committee and, in consultation with the Library Director, recommending members and setting the agendas of the meetings. The Chair may also communicate actions and decisions of the Committee to appropriate parties, on its behalf. The Chair makes an annual report to the Office of the Provost.
