HSL's Commitment to DiversityThe Health Sciences Library understands that diversity is a critical element of Carolina's pursuit of academic excellence, and has a strong commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive community. To fulfill the promise of this commitment, we continue to examine our recruitment strategies in order to achieve a diverse library workforce. We create opportunities for our staff and our community to explore a broad range of diversity issues including why diversity matters to academic libraries, how libraries across the country are building a more diverse workforce and inclusive organizational climates, and how inequalities impact health and education. We highlight contributions of outstanding minority leaders to health through educational programs and other communications. We also track our progress towards a diverse workforce through our own benchmarking studies and comparisons with changes in the workforce in other academic health sciences and research libraries. Our vision to be a leader in the global health information network underscores our need to build multicultural competencies and to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders so that together, we can connect people everywhere with knowledge to improve health.
