Make a DifferenceOur vision for the Health Sciences Library at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will not become a reality without partnerships and support from private individuals and institutions. Technology is expanding rapidly, and the need for accurate, quickly accessible health information is steadily increasing. As a result, the demands on the Health Sciences Library's space and services are outsripping its capacity to meet them. To keep pace, we must adapt to offer access on-line at the desktop or bedside to the latest and best health services information; and to interactive educational programs for distance learners using audio and video as well as text. Our goal is to provide the facilities for creating digital materials, for designing new interactive learning programs; for using those programs for teaching and learning individually and in groups; and for housing a growing collection of electronic and print materials. The renovation goal of $1,000,000 raised through private support enhances the improvements made possible by a higher education bond referendum. These funds will allow the library to achieve the margin of excellence necessary to serve the information resource needs of Carolina's health affairs schools and the North Carolina medical and biotechnology communities in the next century. The Health Sciences Library has a total capital campaign goal of $5,000,000. This goal includes endowments for new technology, expanding collections, and the expert faculty needed to continue to meet the growing and changing information needs of health professionals and consumers. The Health Sciences Library's high quality knowledge management leads to the excellent health education and care that touches many lives in Carolina. The renovation offers many investment and naming opportunities.
