General Reference books

General reference books are a good place to look when there is not a pamphlet that covers your client's information need. Sometimes the texts can add information to what is presented in a pamphlet.

The Merck Manual of Medical Information Home Edition begins with a section containing several chapters covering general health information. The bulk of the book is divided into sections addressing groups of types of disorders, for example, "Hormonal Disorders" and "Skin Disorders". The sections are divided into chapters that focus on a specific disease or a group of related diseases. There is a section devoted to "Women's Health Issues". The book has a very complete index that makes it easy to find specific information. The Manual is available online without charge.
