About the Collections

Description and Mission

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library collects, preserves, and provides appropriate access to materials that illustrate the continuum of history of the science and practice of the health disciplines. The history collection includes materials in the library's History Room, realia, and materials in its other collections.

The mission of the Health Sciences Library Historical Collections is to serve the faculty, staff and students of the University of North Carolina and the people of North Carolina by providing information on the history of the science and practice of the health disciplines.

Hours and Services

Historical Collections materials are accessible Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, except for University holidays. Access to materials from the Historical Collections at other times requires an appointment. Use of some materials may require an appointment even during regular hours.
