WEB-BASED VIDEOCONFERENCING COMES TO HSL

The Health Sciences Library is pleased to announce the availability of self-service videoconferencing equipment, which allows videoconferencing to three remote sites with the ability to transmit from a personal computer to the remote site. The equipment is located on the third floor, in room 328. The web-based system uses H.323 technology, which transmits audio and video via the Internet. The suggested capacity for this room is 6-12 people. ITS Classroom Hotline support staff will provide user orientations and handle questions.

There is currently no charge for the use of the room. There may be charges for additional ITS services, if necessary. The room may be reserved using the Room Reservation form http://www.hsl.unc.edu/AboutLib/Building/reservationforms.cfm from the HSL web site (www.hsl.unc.edu). Please contact Julia Shaw-Kokot (jsk@med.unc.edu or 919-966-0952) for more information or to set up a tour of this space or any of the meeting or educational spaces at the Health Sciences Library.

UNC-CHAPEL HILL OPEN ACCESS AUTHORS' FUND

Publish your next article in an open access journal, or use an open access option in a traditional journal. Open access increases the visibility, retrievability, audience, usage, and citations of your journal article. Need help with the related author fees? The libraries manage a fund sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development that can provide up to $1000 to cover publishing charges related to offering free immediate open access to journal articles. Go to the Health Sciences Library's Open Access and Scholarly Communications webpage to learn more about open access publishing and retrieve the OA Author's Fund application form.

TELL US YOUR STORIES!

We are looking for HSL users (students, faculty, researchers, community members) to participate in a project by telling us about your use of the library, how an HSL staff person helped you, where is your favorite spot in the library, and more. If you have a story to share, please contact Susan Siegel: sysiegel@med.unc.edu. You might be selected to have your story and photo featured in our publications!

HSL E-NEWS is a monthly publication of the UNC-Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library. For more information on this publication, contact Susan Siegel, Communications Coordinator: sysiegel@med.unc.edu, 919-966-0944.
