Study Hall: 10am-1pm

Study Hall: 10am-1pm & 6pm-10pm
*Study Hall: library services will be limited. Staff will be available to check out materials to patrons. Reference help, equipment help, ITS lab help, room reservation help, and other services will not be available during study hall hours.

Friend's Café will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm
The library will be closed on July 4

CONSTRUCTION ALERT

For maintenance and in preparation for upcoming construction, steam lines and pipes are being replaced in the area between the library and the Dental Research Building. The construction will affect the street area in front of HSL for several months. During this time, the bus stop is being relocated to the front of the coffee shop - an even more convenient spot, so stop in to the Friends' Cafe for a cup of coffee while you wait for your bus!

HSL MEDICINAL GARDENS IN BLOOM

If you missed the June 11 opening of the Sam W. Hitt Medicinal Gardens, or you attended and were wowed by its beauty, we have more information and resources. In addition to visiting the garden (located in front of and behind the HSL, and on the south side of the building), you can see photos and learn about the herbs online at: http://www.hsl.unc.edu/Collections/MedicinalGarden/intro.htm Also learn more about therapeutic uses of plants by visiting the exhibit in the HSL lobby, "Plants with Purpose"

UP-TO-DATE ACCESS

Beginning July 1, UpToDate will only be accessible from the UNC campus. This includes UNC Hospitals, the ACC, the Family Practice Center, on-campus libraries and contiguous UNC buildings. 2007 COMMUNITY DIAGNOSIS PAPERS NOW ONLINE

Ten years of community diagnosis papers written by graduate students in the School of Public Health's Department of Health Behavior and Health Education are now available online. PEDIATRIC RESIDENT EDUCATION POSTER SCORES A WIN!

Pediatric Clinical Librarian Sarah Towner Wright's poster "A novel approach to pediatric resident education is associated with higher resident in-training exam scores" won third place in a competition of over 90 posters presented at the annual meeting of the Medical Library Association in Philadelphia. Co-authored by Sue Tolleson-Rinehart with the School of Public Health and William Henry Lagarde, the poster can be viewed as a PowerPoint slide at: http://www.mlanet.org/am/am2007/e-present/20070521_08_wright.ppt

EVALUATE ONLINE PRODUCTS FOR POSSIBLE PURCHASE

  • PsychiatryOnline (until August 11) includes DSM-IV-TR, Handbook of differential diagnosis, Casebook and treatment companion, archival editions of the DSM-IV, practice guidelines, textbooks, and journals.
  • Medical Letter on Drugs and Therapeutics (until September 30) offers access to searchable content on this title from 1988 to present; Treatment guidelines from The Medical Letter from September 2002-present; Adverse drug interactions database, an evidence-based database; and The handbook of antimicrobial therapy.
