PeopleSusan Linn to Receive Chancellor's Award![]() Congratulations to Susan B. Linn who has been honored with the Chancellor's Award. Linn is a familiar face behind the desk at HSL having served as an Information Associate and Shelving Manager since 1999. This award honors her outstanding commitment to service. The Chancellor's Award Program was established in 1991 to recognize the contributions made by University employees based on meritorious or distinguished accomplishments in the categories of devotion to duty, innovations, public service, safety/heroism, human relations, and other achievements. All University employees are eligible for nomination. The award recipients will be honored at a recognition luncheon in August with the Chancellor. In addition, winners receive an award of $1000, 24 hours of leave, and a framed certificate. The Chancellor's Award honorees also become the University's nominees for the State Employees Awards for Excellence. Xiaomei Gu Awarded ARL Diverse Workforce Stipend![]() Congratulations to graduate assistant, Xiaomei Gu, who was recently selected as a stipend recipient through the Association of Research Libraries Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce. The award offers stipend funding in support of MLIS education of up to $10,000 over two years to students from underrepresented groups who are interested in careers in research libraries. The program is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and by voluntary contributions from 52 ARL member libraries. Lynne Morris Retires After 21 Years of Service to HSL![]() The primary person behind Ask-a-Librarian, Lynne Morris, has chatted online and on the phone with thousands of Library patrons over the years. After 35 years as a medical librarian and 21 years at HSL, Morris is retiring. She has answered questions from hospital patients and Carolina students, from faculty here and from Cairo, and many who called, walked in, emailed, or used chat to ask HSL for information. Morris also taught and mentored close to 50 library science student employees, new librarians, and others in the art and science of using MEDLINE, GratefulMed, OVID Medline, PubMed, and Medical Subject Headings while at HSL. She is an extraordinary librarian and will be missed. We wish her well in retirement. HSL E-NEWS is a monthly publication of the UNC-Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library.
