Downloading from PubMed into EndNote

Two steps are needed to transfer records from PubMed into your EndNote library

STEP 1: Downloading from PubMed

  • Perform your search in PubMed
  • You can save all of the references or put checks next to selected items you would like to keep
  • In the Display pull-down menu, select MEDLINE

  • PubMed should now be showing your references in a "tagged" format

  • From the Send to menu, select File

  • You will now be prompted to save the file (pubmed-result.txt) to your computer

STEP 2: Importing into EndNote

  • Go to EndNote and open the library where you want to store the references
  • Click on the File menu and select Import. The import dialog box will appear

  • Click on Choose File and select the file you just saved from PubMed (pubmed-result.txt)
  • Under Import Option, choose Other Filters, then select PubMed (NLM). Click Choose

  • Under Duplicates, select Discard Duplicates
  • Click on Import.

  • Your references from PubMed should now be in your Endnote library
