Important Change for EndNote Users: Downloading from PubMed

There has been a significant change to the way the PubMed references are structured for downloading into EndNote. You will still want to save your citations in the “MEDLINE” format. However, you will need a new PubMed import filter for EndNote or all of the data from multiple PubMed references will be merged into one EndNote record.

To download the new PubMed filter:

Go to the following section of the EndNote web site: http://www.endnote.com/support/enfilters.asp

Choose the appropriate platform (Win or Mac). The default is set for Windows.
Use the drop down menu next to “Sort by” and select Information Provider

Click on the tab labeled Filtering Options. Use the drop down list next to “Filter by” to choose NLM and click on Filter Files

From this short list of NLM filters, click on the link labeled FTP next to the PubMed filter. You should be prompted to save the file to your computer

Make sure you save the updated filter in the same directory with all of your other EndNote filters. For many, that directory will be C:\Program Files\EndNote\Filters
