GPO Access

GPO Access is a service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free electronic access to information products produced by the Federal Government. The information provided on this site is the official, published version and the information retrieved from GPO Access can be used without restriction, unless specifically noted. This free service is funded by the Federal Depository Library Program and has grown out of Public Law 103-40, known as the Government Printing Office Electronic Information Enhancement Act of 1993. GPO Gate provides another way to access these databases via the University of California.

Other government information in print, microform, and electronic formats is available from the Documents collection of the Reference Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

National Conference of State Legislatures
Provides the ability to search state documents encompassing legislative policy reports, current and past legislation, state statutes, and 50-state surveys. Serves as a gateway to state legislative sites.

Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services
Formerly the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Presents comprehensive information and data on Medicare, Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

NCQA's Health Plan Report Card
Publishes results on managed care organizations that care for commercially insured individuals and Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Offers the option to create customized report cards for specific health plans.

HealthGrades - The Healthcare Quality Experts
Grades the performance of health care providers in the United States, including hospitals, physicians, health plans, and nursing homes; also includes provider profiles based on patient satisfaction surveys.

These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

  • Health Services Research Projects in Progress Fact Sheet

    Indexes research-in-progress funded by federal, state, private organization, and foundation grants and contracts before results are available in published form.

  • LexisNexis Academic

    Provides full-text access to general, regional and international news, company news and financial information, legal information, and other topics such as biographical information. LexisNexis Academic is a web-based service that provides access to most of the information formerly available on the LexisNexis Educational Program (approximately 75% of the titles). It covers general, regional and international news, company news and financial information, legal information (including law reviews, case law and legal rulings), and other topics such as biographical information. Many of the files are full-text.
