Why does RefWorks keep asking me for a group code?

Group codes are used by some institutions to help RefWorks identify a user's affiliation. We are using the library proxy server for all off-campus access to RefWorks and Write-N-Cite. Please use the links on this web site to Login to RefWorks from off-campus, since our links are proxy-safe. Alternatively, you can bookmark the following address:

http://libproxy.lib.unc.edu/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/

Please follow the steps outlined in step 4 of our set up guide for off-campus access to Write-N-Cite.

If you are using a Mac or Word 2007, follow the directions below to set up Write-N-Cite for off campus access.

Group Code:
You can get the Group Code by following this link . Enter it as prompted by WNC. This option is recommended for Mac users, Word 2007 users, for those using beta versions of WNC, and for anyone experiencing access problems. Access to the Group Code is limited to current UNC-Chapel Hill affiliates.

What is RefShare?

RefShare is a feature that allows you to easily share references and folders from your RefWorks account with colleagues both inside and outside of the UNC community. You may want to use this feature for collaborative student projects, reading lists or faculty publications lists. After clicking on "Share Folder," you can set options for exporting, printing and creating bibliographies.

How can I get RefWorks to work with Google Scholar?

First, always search Google Scholar from the More Databases section of the HSL web page. This will allow RefWorks to use the library proxy server when you import Scholar references into RefWorks. Additionally, starting from the library web page will mean you also automatically have direct access, both on and off campus, to subscription articles already paid for through the library.

Next, you'll need to set your Google Scholar preferences to enable importing of references into RefWorks. You can read more about Google Scholar here.

What is RefGrab-It?

This new RefWorks tool allows users to easily capture web page bibliographic information. Information captured using RefGrab-It is then imported into a user's RefWorks database. RefGrab-It works "behind the scenes" to locate bibliographic information associated with web pages including title and URL information.

For more information about how to install the RefGrab-It tool visit the following RefWorks link;
