HSL Collaboration Center

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) Collaboration Center offers leading edge visualization and collaboration technologies that can be used for research across disciplines, campuses, and continents; community outreach activities; clinical applications or educational programs. Through the Collaboration Center, research teams can visualize their data in large format and high resolution not possible on a computer monitor and share their data, applications and visualizations with colleagues around the world. Students and faculty can virtually attend a biomedical conference taking place on another campus or in another country.

Visualization Expertise and Staff Support            Return to the top

In addition to space and advanced technologies, the Center provides support for users including technology orientation and dedicated visualization programming expertise. Visualization programming staff are available to provide and assist with use of existing DisplayWall applications as well as to develop custom data visualization applications as needed.

    Center Objectives

  • Expand community of practice among Roadmap-funded projects at UNC through demonstrations, promotions and a growing user base.
  • Identify and engage researchers to explore data visualization applications and collaborative uses
  • Promote visualization and related programming services
  • Determine other knowledge management services needed
  • Develop business plan for ongoing support
  • HSL-RENCI Partnership            Return to the top

The Health Sciences Library Collaboration Center at UNC-Chapel Hill was developed and implemented in partnership with the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) in 2005. HSL's vision for the Collaboration Center is to foster creativity and peer-to-peer learning among multi-disciplinary research teams through a combination of technology, staff expertise, and supporting library services and facilities. RENCI's partnership with HSL provides a synergy of expertise and technology for a uniquely rich and accessible collaboration environment. HSL is one of two RENCI engagement sites on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus and one of eight RENCI engagement centers across the state.

    Reservations            Return to the top

Reserve the Collaboration Center for a demonstration or for research use.

An orientation is required for first time users of Center technologies. Contact Collaboration Center staff to schedule an orientation prior to live use/event.

The Collaboration Center may also be scheduled on a first come and short term basis for UNC faculty and staff meetings not requiring use of Center technology. These meetings do not require an orientation.
