Occupation Matters

The “Occupation Matters” exhibit honors the work of occupational therapists and occupational scientists, and features historical photos as well as contemporary images of a number of therapists who are graduates of the Masters of Science (M.S.) in occupational therapy program in the Department of Allied Health Sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the UNC Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences (DSHS), the UNC Health Sciences Library and the DSHS have collaborated to present an exhibit highlighting the activities of speech and hearing professionals, with an emphasis on the specialty areas of UNC faculty. The exhibit is on display in the South Columbia Street entrance foyer of the HSL.

UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health: Meeting the Public Health Challenges of the 21st Century

A collaborative exhibition highlighting the history and current public health initiatives of the newly renamed School of Public Health. The exhibit shows how the School is making a difference in North Carolina and around the world — and how its premier education, research and service will address the public health challenges of the 21st century. The exhibit also features historical materials about the School that are part of the Library’s Special Collections, including selections from the papers of Dr. Daniel Okun, digitized public health documents and journals, and more.

Dedication of the Benson Reid Wilcox Historical Collections Reading Room

Following a dedication ceremony held Jan. 14, 2011, the UNC Health Sciences Library (HSL) is pleased to announce that its Historical Collections Reading Room is now named “The Benson Reid Wilcox Historical Collections Reading Room.”

 

A Conversation with Dr. Oliver Smithies

On March 30, 2009, Dr. Oliver Smithies, Excellence Professor or Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and 2007 Nobel Laureate, addressed an audience at HSL about the importance of information access to scientific research, especially his own. Moderated by Dr. Tony Waldrop, former Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development at UNC.

Organizing the World’s Information: Google’s Vision for the 21st Century

On October 26, 2006, the HSL was honored to welcome Craig Silverstein. Mr Silverstein was the first employee hired by Google’s founders. The talk included a panel discussion and questions from the audience.
