Journal Cancellations 2009: Cancellation Criteria
Initial criteria: Cost per use
- If much higher than for comparable journals
- If much higher than for other titles from same publisher
Titles meeting initial criteria will undergo further screening:
- Usage
- Are overall numbers high or low? (if low, still essential title to core audience?)
- Low use compared to other titles in same area
- Impact on UNC audience
- Low or no impact factor rating
- No or minimal UNC publication activity
- No or minimal use of journal content for e-reserves
- Cost effectiveness
- Cost per use is higher than total cost of obtaining via interlibrary loan
- Freely available online after an embargo period, such as after 12 months
- Annual price increases much more than average
Other factors will also be considered. Titles meeting one or more of the above criteria will likely appear on a list for public feedback in June 2009.
