Methods: IRB Application and Approval

The Central and East Durham AOCD teams applied for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval through the UNC School of Public Health IRB. Any research involving community members must be approved before data gathering efforts could be initiated. Although the Central and East Durham AOCD teams were collaborating, both teams submitted an individual application to distinguish the different focus of each team. Both teams received IRB approval in October 2000.
