Transportation

Most of the men who were interviewed reported walking as their main form of transportation, with bus riding as their secondary transportation. It seemed that women tended to use the bus more, but they also walk a lot. DATA (Durham Area Transport Authority) and TTA (Triangle Transport Authority) donated bus tickets to be used as incentives for participation in interviews and at the Community Forum, which proved to be very popular with community members. In addition to in-town transportation, buses are used to go back and forth from Durham to Chapel Hill or Raleigh. Some informants use homeless shelters and kitchens throughout the triangle area, while others feel strongly that "Durham is my home" and do not feel comfortable going from shelter to shelter and prefer to stay in a place where they know people and know their way around.
