African-American:white space Also known as Black. "A person having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as 'Black, African Am., or Negro,' or provide written entries such as African American, Afro American, Kenyan, Nigerian, or Haitian." (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)

Caucasian:white space Also known as White. "A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as 'White' or report entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, Near Easterner, Arab, or Polish." (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)

Community Memberwhite space Latinos who live in Fuquay-Varina year-round and Latino migrant farm workers based in and around Fuquay-Varina.

Insider:white space A member of the Latino community of Fuquay-Varina; a non-service provider Latino community member.

Latino:white space "Hispanics or Latinos are those people who classified themselves in one of the specific Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino categories listed on the Census 2000 questionnaire -Mexican, Mexican Am., Chicano,' 'Puerto Rican', or 'Cuban' -as well as those who indicate that they are 'other Spanish/Hispanic/Latino.' (Census, 2000) This definition regards ethnicity and not race. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)

Legal status:white space "Legal status" means the person is legally entitled to live in the United States. Legal status can be:
  • permanent, as in the case of citizens, nationals, and permanent resident aliens, or
  • temporary, as is usually the case with students and tourists.

Outsider:white space A group consisting of community members who are non-Latino and service providers.

Service provider:white space A person providing services (ie: health, housing, government, etc.) to residents in Fuquay-Varina.

Undocumented:white space Refers to individuals without legal status.
