Loan Periods & Renewals | Cards & Access | Fines & Stops | Recalls (Holds)

UNC Chapel Hill libraries are open to all visitors and most library resources are available for use within the building, including electronic databases, journals and books.

Health Sciences Library loan policies differ from loan periods of other UNC-Chapel Hill libraries. All patrons who borrow from the Health Sciences Library receive the following loan periods for HSL materials:

Books 30 days
Audio Visuals (videos & dvds) 7 days
Journals 1 hour
Reserves Assigned by Instructor: library use only,
4 hours, one day, 3 days or 7 days
Laptops, Headphones, Ethernet Cords, Remote Controls, Misc 4 hours
Reference Materials Library Use Only
Special Collections (Historical Collections, Archives, etc.) Library Use Only

Renew books for three additional loan periods and audio visuals for two additional loan periods if no one requests the item. Contact us or renew online at MyLibrary. To renew your items online, enter your name, as it is entered in the Millenium database, and borrower's number or PID. You are now in your account where you can renew your checked out items. You can also use MyLibrary to save a reading history of the books you check out.

You may also bring books to the User Services Desk or the circulation desk of any other campus library to recheck out the book and restart the renewals online. Circumstances such as book recalls, outstanding fines, or an expired borrower's card may prevent online renewal.
