Christian Girod (1930- )

Christian Girod, also known as Christian Alphonse Girod, was born on August 31, 1930 in Bône (Algeria). He studied medicine at the Université d’Alger, receiving his degree in 1957. He also received a licence in science.

Girod worked as an assistant from (1955-1957), chef de travaux (1957-1961), and associate professor (1961-1962) at the Université d’Alger. He then took positions as professor (1962-1966/67) and titled professor of histology, embryology, and cytogenetics (1967 on) at the Université Claude -Bernard in Lyon. He was head biologist of the hospitals (since 1967), director of the unité d’enseignement et de recherché (U.E.R.) Alexis Carrel (since 1971), and honorary dean of the faculté de médecine Alexis Carrel (since 1977).

Girod was a member of the Société de biologie d’Alger (1956-1962), of the Association des anatomistes de langue française, the Société de biologie de Lyon, the Société française de cytologie clinique, the Société française d’histochimie, the Société française de biologie médicale, the Société d’endocrinologie, and the Société de neuro-endocrinologie. He was also a member of the American Society of Primatologists and the New York Academy of Sciences.

Girod has published in the areas of endocrinology, cytology, and reproduction.
